Members of the Central Hardwoods Joint
Venture (CHJV) formed a partnership, beginning in 2000, to elevate
emphasis on bird conservation within the Central
Hardwoods Bird Conservation Region (CHBCR). More specifically, the partnership
works to implement the conservation objectives of the various national
and international bird conservation plans that fall under the auspices
of the North
American Bird Conservation Initiative (NABCI).
The CHJV is one of 21
such partnerships across the US and Canada
dedicated to bird conservation.
The partnership seeks to base conservation actions on sound science and the principles of adaptive management, and to target landscapes
with the greatest ecological and socioeconomic potential to support
viable populations of priority birds in four general habitat types:
grasslands, grass-shrublands, forest-woodlands, and wetlands.
To achieve its goals, the partnership brings together the jurisdictional
commitment and collective energies, talents and expertise of the
state and federal agencies with management responsibilities within
the CHJV boundaries. The coordination provided through the CHJV
partnership will facilitate bird conservation planning at the highest
level of efficiency and enable the partners to achieve the delivery
of conservation in a synergistic and effective manner. The benefits
of this partnership include:
1) Shared purpose,
2) Increased resources,
3) Shared efficiency,
4) Innovative solutions,
5) Better communication,
6) Increased public support, and
7) Increased organizational morale and image.

How You Can Help
The base funding for Joint Ventures comes from
a line item in the Department of Interior, Fish and Wildlife Service
budget. If you support what we do, the best way to help is to contact
your members of Congress and let them know that the cooperative
conservation that Joint Ventures carry out is valuable to you. |
